HomeThatWorks is a smart home site built around one idea: a smart home should work every time, for everyone in the house, including when the internet is down.

What I use

My own setup runs on a local Hubitat hub, Lutron Caséta switches, Sonos speakers and Alexa, with Homebridge bridging a few things into Apple Home. I write about what I run, what I've tried, and what I'd skip.

How I pick what to recommend

• Reliability first. Boring and dependable beats flashy.
• Local control. Automations should run inside your home, not on someone else's server.
• Honest trade-offs. Every product has downsides, and I list them.
